David Bentley Hart on the Bogey Man of "Socialism" in American Discourse

I’ve written a lot over the last year on the relationship between Capitalism and American Democracy, thinking a little bit about how it impacts American evangelicalism; although, I admit, I never got around to writing my “think piece” on the matter. Partly because it seems like way to much reading and thinking will be required to do it.

At the same time, one of the most frequently clicked posts I’ve had this year has been my screen grabs of David Bentley Hart’s facebook rant about his work being co-opted by ultra-conservatives.

This week, Hart published an op-ed in the New York Times where he further elaborated on his position of Democratic Socialism and criticized American political discourse for intentionally misusing the term socialist while championing hollow notions of freedom.
